For many years people have debated if Coke was really better than Pepsi or if they were very similar and it all came down to personal taste. Deciding if you want to have Coke or Pepsi is often debated whenever you go for a drink and some people simply prefer one rather than the other. Both are very similar and are leading brands in the carbonated drinks field so having to choose between them can be difficult.
Coke was first produced in 1886 and is now sold in over 200 countries worldwide; you can find it in restaurants, stores and vending machines. It is produced by the international manufacturer Coca Cola which is a trademarked brand but often the drink is referred to as Coke. There are now many different varieties of Coke available to buy which has not helped the Coke or Pepsi debate. You can buy Coke as diet, cherry, zero, vanilla and there are even limited addition flavors of lime, lemon and coffee. Even with these added flavors the original Coke is still the most popular.
The Coca Cola bottle is as famous as the brand itself the bottle was designed in 1915 and is an icon in its own right. Many people prefer to drink the Coke from this bottle, they claim it has a more clean taste rather than in cans or plastic bottles. The glass bottle is another factor to consider in the Coke or Pepsi debate as Pepsi only serves their drinks in cans or plastic bottles. Although in 2007 Coca cola introduced a can in the same shape as the glass bottle it never took off and the original design was re introduced.
Pepsi has not been around as long as Coke and was first produced in 1890 and was soon called Pepsi Cola as it contained Kola nuts in the recipe. The inventor wanted to produce a fountain drink which helped to boost energy and it very soon became popular. Its original logo and badge was changed in 1929 and a huge advertising campaign was launched. Although the Pepsi Cola Company has gone bankrupt several times, they are still producing drinks and operating today. The popularity of the Coke or Pepsi discussion has helped to keep the business alive.
Coca Cola has offered to buy the Pepsi brand on three separate occasions and have been declined showing that they are happy to have competition. Pepsi has now trademarked several different logos and have been using the current one for several years. They enjoy huge marketing campaigns which often involve big stars. Many pop stars have sung the Pepsi theme tune and they often will change the slogan to suit the event or concert. In 1975 Pepsi began the Pepsi challenge which called for people to blind taste test Coke or Pepsi and tell them apart.
The majority of people went on to choose Pepsi as the better tasting brand so they took advantage of this and marketed Pepsi even more while boasting these results. Both brands have huge support all over the world and whether you prefer Coke or Pepsi both will be around for many more years to come. As both brands endeavor to become more healthy people still love the great taste of both.
